Nov 2 – FRIDAY!!!! — 26 Comments

  1. Hey Guys, I thought you might be interested in this.
I got a new phone just before my trip to Europe, I got a Samsung Galaxy SIII and I’ve been playing with it ever since. Well last night while I was searching my Google App store, I found this app called “Digitrax Toolbox”. If you’re running Digitrax DCC or you use their decoders I think you’ll find it very useful.
My wife has an iPhone so out of curiosity I found it’s available for Apple as well.

  2. Good morning I put a pot of coffee on. I hope to get to the work bench sometime soon and finish up some of the projects I started.
I hope everyone has a good day.

  3. Good morning everyone and thanks for the coffee Larry.

Ralph, I have the Digitrax toolbox on my iPhone and find it a useful app, I also use my iPhone to run trains.

Been a pretty busy week with no modelling but I hope to get to the layout on the weekend as there is a section of scenery I would like to complete. Also waiting for my Rabbit to arrive so I can pre-program a couple of turnouts to give me automatic route control.

    Have a great day everyone.

  4. Coffee .. ahh .. my drug of choice. Have a full cup .. fed the cats .. and now catching up here.

I just got an email from eBay telling me that I had purchased something (Dental Stone) from someone in the ‘affected area’ and that it would be delayed …

Had forgotten about it pretty much but .. yeah .. I understand. Just hope it didn’t get under water. :p

  5. Good morning all,

Thanks for the coffee.. has the Geezer checked in? I’m happy that Rick is okay even if he has no power.

Finally picked out the paint color for the goop I’ll make. Just got a big shipment from Silfor and will start some serious scenery work next week.

  6. Playing around trying to get a feeling for what I want to do on the bit of background showing between the cliffs. Something like this might work but that ‘meadow’ would have to have some rock outcroppings I think to work with the closer rock.

  7. Morning guys. Just found out about this new lounge from Dallas over on the Conspiracy. Glad everyone made it through OK. We only lost power for a couple hours and one very small tree blown over (I’ve already cut it up).
I understand Ed may be contracting out with his Shapeways expertise (laughs) It seems a certain vendor is now taking advantage of Ed’s tutorial here on the website.
    OK, gotta go now.

  8. Thanks for the link. I love technology — when it works!

Had hardwood and new wide baseboards put in on the first floor of the Ocean View house this week — look great but sure blows a big hole in the “fun to do” budget. Need to paint baseboards (ugh!} or get them painted (it is only money dear!) so we can put all of the furniture back in.

Spent yesterday in Newark DE dealing with my 92 year old mother. Found a private room for her in a nursing home there so have to coordinate with my brother to get her moved in this weekend. Then the fun of getting her house cleaned out and fixed up for sale begins.

Post Sandy work continues in the area – -Rte 1 is still closed for traffic because of dune breach — they have a mile or so long pile of sand to clean off of dual highway with turn off cuts. They did open one lane for emergency vehicles late yesterday.

It will be tough getting qualified workers here for all the home repairs that need to be done to flooded homes in Bethany Beach. Several are year round homes so you really feel for them. Others are vacation and rentals but owners will want those done by Memorial Day so things will be humming.

Everyone have a great weekend and if you are suffering from Sandy my thoughts are with you.

  9. WOW thanks for setting up this “lounge” for us Ed…….I’ve been very busy with my house remodel (no time for trains, but I do go up to the new rr room over the garage with a tape measure and do some “dreaming” during coffee breaks…(my wife is a slave driver!, “back to work Tom or else!”
I’m considering doing Iain Rice’s “Sheepscot” plan for Maine 2′ (30″) It would fit nicely and still give me a little more room for some “expansion” and staging.

  10. I was just listening to talk radio. They are reporting that utility trucks from other states are being turned away from New Jersey because they are not union.

They also said that they are setting up for the New York Marathon .. with generators, bottled water, police etc. .. while areas of the city are without power, water, food and police (gangs of teens roaming and stealing). That makes no sense to me at all.

    Is this true?

  11. Having lived in Jersey some 25 years, the “union” comment doesn’t surprise me. And yes, Mayor Blumberg has ok’d the Marathon this weekend…..Thousands of folks you run it have already been in NYC for a couple of days getting ready.
But with so much of NYC without power (south of 39th street) I wonder what the folks with hotel rooms in that area are doing…..
Sounds a lot like “damned if you do and damned if you don’t”……Good Luck NYC!

    • So .. we have people without power .. without food .. without police .. and Bloomberg is allowing a marathon. What about the elderly in the buildings without power? They can’t use elevators .. do they water? So .. there are people who have been ready for the race. My response is .. SO WHAT! They would make better use of those generators in the places without power .. or gas stations so they could pump gas. They could make better use of the runners to run water to those elderly people. I don’t get it.

  12. I posted on yesterday’s page, sorry. Thanks for setting this up, Ed. It’s good to be able to communicate with some familiar names.

  13. Looks like the NY city mayor has reconsidered his decision on the Marathon, I just saw on our news that it has been cancelled.
    Ralph (CN6401)

    • Yeah, I saw that. They said that one of the flat-bed semis had generators the length of the flat .. to power the tents. Guess someone finally realized that .. “Gee. That MIGHT be useful you know .. to like power a school or some such so people could keep warm”

    • There were several textile plants there. Avondale Mills (denim) closed or sold off it’s plants in 2006 .. evidently resulting from the 2005 Norfolk Southern accident that killed 9 people when an improperly lined switch caused a collision between two trains and the release of 60 tons of chlorine gas.
