Grouping for 3D Printing

Making use of MeshLab, Sketchup and Blender

In this three part tutorial, I show you how to easily create a group of models joined together on a frame so that you can order multiple copies without incurring extra handling charges. This first video explains a little bit about Meshlab, the open-source tool for modifying 3D files. It is perfect for doing precise, basic operations like scaling, aligning, and simplifying your model.

  1. Part 1 – MeshLab – he gives a quick overview of MeshLab.
  2. Part 2 – Sketchup – In this tutorial he shows how to a sprues to the object in preparation for building an array in Blender.
  3. Part 3 – Blender – Here, he covers using Blender to replicate the model as an array of objects. This is important when you are needing a quantity of models printed.
