A Loading Platform for Model Railway
A Loading Platform for Model Railway

That was the title of this article in the July 1938 issue of Popular Science. The drawing shows only one side of the platform but if you notice it gives the total length as 77ft .. with a platform length of 30ft .. and a ramp measuring 23ft .. that pretty much tells me that there is a ramp on the other end.

In Sketchup
I copied the drawing to Sketchup so I could create some plans. One of the cool things about using Sketchup for this is that if I create the object full-size then I can generate plans in any scale. Pretty nifty .. I think.

Downloads: I have the plans full-sized for O, HO and N scales. Please let me know any problems or other comments.

  1. I am in the process of finally being able to build my own HO layout.
All things HO especially things that pertaint to stations and depots are most helpful to me.
I where possible would rather scratch build than buy ready made, i enjoy that part of the hobby alot.
    Bestregards

    • I just checked .. all these links are working fine. If you look at the very top of the page where it says .. “A Loading Platform for Model Railway” .. that links directly to the original article.

      • Ed- Thank you for your help! What I had done was “copy and paste” the URL you show in the Google address bar and nothing happened. I hadn’t realized the “A Loading Platform for Model Railway” heading was a link. I had stumbled across your site while searching for milk loading platform plans. By the way, I thought I would mention I am in Columbus, Ohio. Patrick
