NWSL & SLM Critter – Pt VIII

Managed to drop something on the critter. Poor thing. Roof supports collapsed .. exhaust bent. Disassembled her in prep for doing some repair work .. and .. decided she needs a re-build. Thinking ..

  • Hollow out the engine so I can add weight there
  • .. add weight to the fuel tank. It’s already hollow but might be easier to start with a new one since the ends are closed off
  • I need to add a DCC decoder. The Stanton Drive is DCC ready so that would be fairly simple. Would need to find some place to hide it though.
  • Sound? donno .. they have these exciters .. but even the smallest I’ve found – Dayton Audio DAEX13 Mini Exciter – is 1.25″ x 0.44″ .. the depth being the killer.

Edit: Found an even smaller exciter. The HiWave HIAX11C005-32 11mm Exciter – Specifications: • Power handling: 0.5 watts RMS • VCdia: 11 mm • Nominal impedance: 32 ohms • Dimensions: 1.04″ (26.3 mm) dia. x 0.33″ (8.5 mm) H • Weight: 7.8 grams.

Testing the Stanton Drive
This is using straight DC via the Bachmann E-Z Command. I think I could have got the drive by itself to run a little smoother if I had taken extra time to get a clean track and wheels. Still .. it needs weight. Just the weight I added helped quite a bit. (that was 78 grams/2.8 oz of additional weight)
